₹4.12 Cr Mephedrone bust in Thane, 2 held in police crackdown

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Thane Police arrested two men and seized mephedrone worth ₹4.12 crore , a senior official said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Sohel Dilip Khan (26) and Rohit Vilas Sitapure (29), were apprehended on Monday following a specific tip-off , officials said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarsingh Jadhav , the police recovered 2 kilograms of mephedrone , a synthetic narcotic commonly referred to as a “party drug” , from their possession.

Mephedrone, also known as MD , is widely abused for its stimulant effects and has been a growing concern for law enforcement agencies across urban areas.

The accused have been booked under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and distribution network of the seized contraband.
