37-Year-Old Dies of Suspected Heatstroke in Kerala Amid Rising Temperatures

A 37-year-old man died of suspected Heatstroke in Kerala’s Kannur district, police said on Thursday, highlighting the dangers posed by the ongoing heatwave in the state.

The deceased, identified as Sanal Kumar M V, a native of Mowanchery in Pallipoyil, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon while engaged in digging a well. The incident occurred around 1.20 pm, during peak heat hours.

He was initially rushed to a nearby clinic and later shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed in the early hours of Thursday at around 2.55 am. Doctors have preliminarily cited heatstroke as the cause of death, and officials confirmed that no foul play is suspected.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Chakkarakkallu police station. Following a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to his relatives.

Kerala is currently experiencing intense heatwave conditions, with authorities urging the public to avoid outdoor work between 11 am and 3 pm and to take necessary precautions such as staying hydrated and limiting exposure to direct sunlight.
