30-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills Mother in Kerala, Investigation Underway

A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his mother at their home near Peravoor in Kerala’s Kannur district on Friday night before surrendering at a police station, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Geethamma (53) , wife of Thankachan and a resident of Kanichar near Peravoor. Her son, Christy , later walked into the Kelakom police station and reportedly informed officers about the incident, police said.

According to the FIR, the accused allegedly stabbed his mother in the neck with a knife inside the bedroom of their house between 8 pm and 9 pm. Police said the motive, as recorded in the FIR, suggests he was agitated after hearing people in the locality allegedly speaking ill of his mother.

Following the confession, police reached the residence and shifted Geethamma to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead .

Officials said the incident took place while the victim’s husband, Thankachan , was away from home. Geethamma ran a beauty parlour and was also associated with BJP Mahila Morcha activities in the region.

Police added that Christy had pursued studies in Bengaluru but did not complete the course and had returned home. While relatives have alleged possible drug abuse, authorities said this aspect is being verified as part of the investigation.

A case of murder has been registered by Kelakom police, and further inquiry is underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
