‘3 Days in the Wild’: Corbett Literature Festival Set for October 6-8

The inaugural Corbett Literature Festival will be held from October 6 to 8, bringing together writers, conservationists, historians, photographers and storytellers for discussions centred on nature, wildlife and the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.

Titled “3 Days in the Wild”, the three-day residential festival will feature more than 30 speakers across over 20 sessions. The programme will explore four broad themes -- nature and wildlife, the Himalayas, Uttarakhand, and culture and heritage.

The festival will be hosted across three venues operated by its hospitality partners -- The Golden Tusk, The Riverview Retreat and Aahana Resort & Spa in Corbett.

“Corbett occupies a prominent place in India’s conservation history. It has inspired India's most enduring wildlife writings and photography, through Jim Corbett to F W Champion,” Corbett Tiger Reserve field director Saket Badola said in a statement.

He said the festival would build on this legacy by bringing different voices connected with wildlife and the landscape together, with the aim of encouraging new ideas and a shared responsibility for Corbett’s future.

The opening day will feature discussions on Himalayan memory, wildlife photography, and Uttarakhand’s folklore and cultural traditions. Speakers include Sahitya Akademi Award-winning author and Jaipur Literature Festival co-founder Namita Gokhale, historian and Chipko movement chronicler Shekhar Pathak, author and naturalist Stephen Alter, and photographer and environmentalist Anup Sah.

The second day will focus on conservation, coexistence and wildlife protection, with participants including conservationist Sanjay Gubbi, journalist and author Nirmal Ghosh, and wildlife photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee.

The final day will cover Himalayan ecology, responsible tourism and nature writing, followed by storytelling, poetry and a literary dinner.

The festival will also offer wildlife photography and filmmaking masterclasses, guided nature walks, and cultural evenings featuring Uttarakhand music, food and storytelling. Participants can book an all-inclusive three-night stay through the hospitality partners.
