250 Gelatin Sticks Recovered From Suspected Naxal Hideout In Bihar’s Jamui

Bihar Police have recovered 250 gelatin sticks, an industrial-grade explosive, from a forested area in Jamui district during an operation aimed at identifying and removing Naxal presence in the region.

Gelatin sticks are high-energy explosives commonly used for controlled blasting in mining, quarrying and construction work. Although they have legitimate industrial uses, their unauthorised possession or diversion can pose a serious security risk.

The explosives were found on Friday in the Guhiya area, where security forces were conducting operations as part of their efforts to track suspected Naxal activities. Officials suspect that the explosive material may have been hidden at the location by Naxals.

According to the Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police, the recovered material was subsequently handled by the bomb detection and disposal squad. The team defused the gelatin sticks at the site, removing the immediate danger posed by the explosive cache.

The operation forms part of wider security efforts in areas where Naxal activity has historically remained a concern. Forested and remote locations can provide cover for the movement and concealment of weapons and explosive materials, making searches in such terrain particularly important for security forces.

While officials suspect a Naxal connection, the recovery itself does not establish who placed the material there. Further investigation is expected to determine the origin of the gelatin sticks, how long they had been concealed in the forest and whether they were intended for any planned activity.

For now, the detection and defusing of the explosives has removed a potentially dangerous cache from the forest and prevented it from remaining undetected.
