The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) marked its 25th Foundation Day at Vishwa Yuva Kendra, New Delhi , celebrating a milestone in advancing tribal empowerment and financial inclusion . The event brought together senior officials, policymakers, and beneficiaries, reflecting on the corporation’s journey as a key enabler of inclusive development across India’s diverse tribal regions.

Addressing the gathering, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram highlighted NSTFDC’s role as a catalyst for entrepreneurship , noting that its approach goes beyond job creation to nurture job providers within Scheduled Tribe communities . He emphasised the importance of collateral-free financial assistance , which has expanded access to credit in remote and underserved tribal belts , including regions in the North-East, Central India, Rajasthan, Odisha, and West Bengal .

Over the past 25 years, NSTFDC has facilitated more than 16.80 lakh loans with total disbursements exceeding ₹4,400 crore , supporting a wide spectrum of tribal communities such as the Santhal , Meena , and several North-Eastern tribes . These initiatives have demonstrated a strong pan-India outreach , enabling beneficiaries from varied socio-economic backgrounds to build sustainable livelihoods and integrate into the broader economy.

The corporation operates through a range of targeted financial schemes designed to meet diverse needs. The Term Loan Scheme supports larger income-generating ventures with funding up to ₹50 lakh, while the Micro Credit Scheme assists Self Help Groups (SHGs) with smaller, community-based financing. Special initiatives such as the Adivasi Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana focus on empowering tribal women entrepreneurs , and education loans help students pursue professional and technical courses, strengthening long-term human capital development.

NSTFDC-supported loans are utilised across a wide array of sectors aligned with local resources and skills. Beneficiaries have invested in agriculture and allied activities such as dairy farming, poultry, fisheries, and horticulture , alongside ventures in handicrafts, textiles, retail, food processing, transport services, and small-scale enterprises . This diversified utilisation ensures that economic development remains region-specific and culturally rooted , enhancing sustainability.

Highlighting the corporation’s financial health, officials noted that NSTFDC has consistently maintained annual profits in the range of ₹20–30 crore , reflecting a robust and sustainable model . The programme has also fostered financial discipline , evident in timely repayments and a low incidence of NPAs , reinforcing confidence in its lending framework.

Speaking at the event, CMD T. Roumuan Paite described the anniversary as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment , reiterating the organisation’s focus on expanding accessible finance , promoting enterprise development , and strengthening livelihood opportunities for tribal communities across the country.

The celebration also honoured successful tribal entrepreneurs who have built ventures in sectors ranging from traditional cuisine and handicrafts to livestock farming and retail businesses , demonstrating the transformative impact of targeted financial support. Cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage and diversity of tribal communities added vibrancy to the occasion.

As NSTFDC enters its next phase, the event underscored its growing role as a national driver of tribal entrepreneurship , combining financial empowerment , regional inclusivity , and sustainable development to uplift millions across India’s tribal landscape.
