Marking its silver jubilee , the Bharat Rashtra Samithi ( BRS ) used its 25-year milestone to signal both reflection and resurgence, with working president K. T. Rama Rao ( KTR ) describing the party as not just a political organisation but a “revolution” rooted in Telangana identity and self-respect politics . At Telangana Bhavan , he hoisted the party flag and framed the moment as a rebirth , invoking the emotional legacy of the movement that led to statehood while urging cadres to prepare for a renewed political journey.

Founded in 2001 by K. Chandrashekar Rao ( KCR ) as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi ( TRS ), the party spearheaded the long statehood movement , ultimately achieving Telangana’s formation in 2014. It then transitioned into a governing force, delivering a decade of rule from 2014 to 2023 marked by welfare expansion , irrigation projects , and infrastructure growth , which leaders claim positioned the state among India’s top performers. The party’s 2022 rebranding to BRS reflected national ambitions , but its loss of power in 2023 has since pushed it into a phase of strategic reset .

Now in opposition, KTR has sharpened attacks on both the Congress and BJP, calling for political comeback and asserting that BRS remains the only consistent voice safeguarding Telangana’s interests. Senior leaders like Ravula Sridhar Reddy have echoed this line, praising past governance while criticising the current administration and highlighting growing public dissatisfaction . The anniversary celebrations across the state doubled as a mobilisation effort, signalling a shift toward rebuilding grassroots strength and organisational momentum.

However, the party’s path forward is complicated by emerging internal and external challenges. In a notable development, K. Kavitha, once a prominent BRS leader, has launched a separate political outfit, reviving a name closely resembling the party’s original identity. This move has stirred debate within political circles, raising concerns about political fragmentation and its potential impact on the regional vote base.

As BRS steps into its 26th year, the milestone underscores more than just its past—it highlights a critical test of relevance. While the party continues to draw on its legacy as a movement that shaped Telangana’s formation, its future will depend on how effectively it converts that legacy into renewed electoral momentum in an increasingly competitive political landscape.
