At just 23, Melbourne-based Indo-Australian endurance athlete Om Satija is undertaking one of the most ambitious long-distance runs ever attempted across India an extraordinary 5,000-kilometre “One India Run” from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. What began on Republic Day as a symbolic journey of unity has evolved into a powerful blend of endurance sport and social impact.

Now on day 87 , Satija has already covered close to 4,000 kilometres , maintaining a gruelling pace of nearly 50 kilometres per day as he approaches Delhi. If completed as planned, his effort could make him the youngest person to run the length of India and potentially the first to traverse the country’s east coast entirely on foot a landmark achievement in Indian endurance athletics.

But beyond the physical feat lies a deeply personal mission. A trained physiotherapist, Satija has often spoken about how early exposure to poverty and the struggles of individuals affected by leprosy in India shaped his desire to contribute meaningfully. Through this run, he aims to raise ₹60 lakh for Udayan Kolkata, an organisation that works with children from marginalised and leprosy-affected communities .

The impact of the initiative is designed to be both measurable and transformative. Each kilometre of the run translates to roughly ₹1,200 toward education , with the larger goal of supporting 1,000 children over the next five years . So far, the campaign has already raised nearly ₹17 lakh , with momentum steadily building through community engagement, local participation, and grassroots fundraising events along the route.

What sets the “One India Run” apart is its ability to turn a solitary endurance challenge into a collective movement . Across cities and towns, supporters have joined Satija for short stretches, while thousands more track his journey online, contributing to the cause and amplifying its message. The run is not just about crossing geographical distances—it is about bridging social gaps and inspiring action.

In a broader sense, Satija’s effort reflects a growing global trend where athletes use extreme endurance challenges to drive social awareness and tangible change . By linking physical resilience with a humanitarian goal, the initiative underscores how sport can transcend competition and become a vehicle for impact.

As he continues his journey northward, the young runner carries more than just the weight of kilometres he carries a message. Through discipline, purpose, and unwavering determination, Om Satija’s run is proving that endurance can inspire empathy, and individual effort can spark collective transformation .
