22 kg ganja seized in Maharashtra’s Beed farm, landowner taken into custody
Police in Maharashtra’s Beed district have seized nearly 22 kilograms of ganja from a farm and arrested a woman in connection with the case, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on a specific tip-off , a police team carried out a raid in Lonwal village of Wadwani tehsil on Wednesday. During the operation, officials found cannabis plants being cultivated for commercial purposes on agricultural land.
The police uprooted the plants on the spot and seized 21.960 kilograms of green ganja , valued at approximately ₹5.49 lakh , an official said. The seizure highlights continued instances of illegal cultivation in rural areas , often under the cover of regular farming activities.
The accused, Ashabai Shingare (43) , who owns the land, was arrested from the site. A case has been registered against her under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , which deals with offences related to illegal drugs.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accused was acting alone or had links to a wider drug supply network . Authorities are also examining if the produce was intended for local distribution or supply to other regions.
Further inquiries are underway.
