22-A Property Row Escalates as Congress, BRS Trade Land Allegations

Political tensions between Telangana’s ruling Congress and opposition BRS have intensified, with both parties trading allegations over land and property matters. As Congress leaders continue visiting farmhouses and properties allegedly linked to BRS leaders, BRS spokesperson Ravula Sridhar Reddy accused the ruling party of using the visits as a political distraction from the 22-A property issue affecting people across the state.

Speaking to the media, Sridhar Reddy said the visits by Congress MPs, MLAs and other leaders to farmhouses associated with BRS leaders, including former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), would offer no benefit to the public. He alleged that the government had failed to properly address the 22-A issue, leaving property owners in Hyderabad and several other parts of Telangana facing difficulties.

Sridhar Reddy claimed that lakhs of properties were added to the 22-A list without informing their owners. He questioned why the government was concentrating on farmhouse visits instead of investigating the allegations and making the findings public. He also asked what concrete steps had been taken so far to resolve the problems faced by property owners.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders defended their inspections, saying they were aimed at bringing alleged land irregularities under the previous BRS government to public attention. Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav said party MPs and MLCs had recently visited Siddipet to inspect lands allegedly linked to former BRS minister T. Harish Rao and others. He said the Congress would present evidence regarding the alleged acquisition of land and explain the circumstances surrounding the transactions.

Congress MLC and Government Whip Balmuri Venkat also alleged irregularities involving land encroachments and farmhouse constructions in Rangareddy district. He said investigations would be conducted and legal action initiated wherever violations were established.

Venkat further alleged that BRS leaders had accumulated substantial assets by misusing political power during their decade in government. He referred to the declared assets of Harish Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, KCR, Pilot Rohit Reddy and Jagadish Reddy, claiming they had increased significantly between their earlier election affidavits and those filed in 2023.

He said the Congress would place evidence related to alleged land irregularities involving the Dharani portal before the Assembly. He added that concerned departments would act if assigned, government or endowment lands were found within FTL areas. Venkat also accused the BJP of politically exploiting water shortages and drought conditions in southern India.

The exchange of allegations has further intensified the political dispute between Congress and BRS over land transactions, farmhouses and the 22-A property issue.
