₹21.5 Cr Hydroponic Ganja Seized at Bengaluru Airport, Four Passengers Arrested
In a major anti-narcotics operation, Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport seized hydroponic ganja valued at over ₹21.5 crore from four passengers arriving from Bangkok in two separate cases, authorities said on Saturday.
The interceptions took place at Terminal 2 of the airport on May 1 , following targeted surveillance of international arrivals. In the first case, three passengers were stopped by officials, leading to the recovery of 52.68 kg of hydroponic ganja concealed in their baggage. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth ₹18.43 crore in the illicit market.
In a separate but related operation on the same day, another passenger arriving from Bangkok was intercepted. Upon inspection, officials recovered 9 kg of hydroponic ganja , valued at approximately ₹3.15 crore , from the individual’s luggage.
Customs authorities have not disclosed the identities of the accused. All four individuals have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , which prescribes stringent penalties for drug trafficking and possession.
Officials said the seizures highlight ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of high-value narcotics through international routes. Hydroponic ganja, often cultivated using advanced indoor techniques, is known for its higher potency and market value, making it a growing concern for enforcement agencies.
Investigations are underway to determine the broader network and possible links to international drug syndicates, officials added.
