21% of Telangana Voters at Risk of Deletion, CM Revanth Reddy Warns Congress Leaders

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has warned that nearly 21% of voters could face exclusion from the electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), blaming a lack of seriousness and coordination among Congress leaders at various levels.

During a video conference with senior Congress leaders on Thursday, Revanth Reddy directed district in-charge ministers and parliamentary and Assembly constituency in-charges to intensify their monitoring of the SIR exercise. He asked them to identify problems, resolve them quickly and complete district-wise reviews within two days, followed by constituency-level reports.

The Chief Minister instructed constituency in-charges to remain in their respective areas for four days and personally oversee issues related to the enumeration process. He made it clear that any failure to implement the action plan prepared in line with AICC guidelines would not be tolerated.

Revanth Reddy also alleged that the BRS and BJP were conspiring to facilitate voter deletions and urged Congress leaders to take the issue to the people while ensuring eligible voters are not left out.

The concern comes amid significant gaps reported in the enumeration process. According to a statement issued by Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy on August 11, the state has 3,38,26,448 registered voters.

Of these, 2,64,87,214 enumeration forms, or 78.30%, had been digitised. However, 73,39,234 forms (21.70%) were classified as uncollectable, raising concerns that the final electoral roll could see a substantial reduction in voter numbers.

The BLOs' door-to-door enumeration, which began on June 25, concluded on August 10. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on August 17, marking the next major stage of the revision exercise.

The Chief Minister cautioned that inadequate vigilance at this stage could cause serious political damage to the Congress in the future, and stressed the need for immediate corrective action at the constituency level.
