2027 WTC Final Locked In! ICC Makes Big Venue Announcement

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that The Oval in London will host the 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) Final from June 9 to June 13, bringing the pinnacle event of Test cricket back to one of the game's most iconic venues.

The announcement marks the second time that The Oval will stage the WTC Final after successfully hosting the 2023 edition, where Australia defeated India to lift the coveted Test mace.

England had secured the rights to host the next three World Test Championship Finals, 2027, 2029 and 2031, with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) entrusted with selecting the venue for each tournament. Every WTC final since the championship began has been played in the United Kingdom.

With less than a year remaining in the current WTC cycle, the race for a place in the 2027 final is becoming increasingly competitive. Australia currently leads the standings with an impressive 87.50 points percentage, followed by defending champions South Africa on 75 per cent. New Zealand remains firmly in contention with 72.22 per cent, while Bangladesh has emerged as a serious challenger after sweeping Pakistan 2-0 earlier this year.

India, a finalist in the first two editions of the championship, occupies fifth place with a 48.15 points percentage, narrowly ahead of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, England, West Indies and Pakistan will need a strong finish to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.

The coming weeks promise high-stakes action, with several crucial Test series expected to reshape the standings. West Indies will host Pakistan from July 25, Australia will face Bangladesh beginning August 13, India will tour Sri Lanka from August 15, while England will welcome Pakistan for a three-Test series later in August.

Since its launch, the World Test Championship has crowned a different champion in every edition. New Zealand claimed the inaugural title in 2021, Australia triumphed in 2023, and South Africa lifted its maiden WTC trophy in 2025, ensuring the battle for the 2027 crown remains as open as ever.
