20 killed in horrific road accident in Ranga Reddy district
A tragic road accident in Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning has claimed the lives of at least 20 people and left more than 20 others injured. The accident took place between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. near Mirzaguda village in Chevella mandal on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway, when a TGSRTC bus collided head-on with a tipper lorry loaded with gravel.
According to preliminary police reports, around 70 passengers were traveling in the bus, which was heading from Hyderabad to Tandur. The tipper truck, reportedly speeding from the opposite direction, crashed into the bus. The impact was so severe that the gravel stones from the truck poured into the bus, killing several passengers seated in the front instantly. Both the bus driver and the lorry driver also died on the spot. The front portion of the bus was completely crushed.
Rescue teams, police, and local residents rushed to the spot to pull out trapped passengers using JCB machines. The injured were shifted to hospitals in Chevella, Shadnagar, and Hyderabad, including Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals. Police have registered a case and are investigating whether the accident was caused by driver negligence or a mechanical failure. The tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety standards and the movement of heavy vehicles on highways.
CM Revanth Reddy expresses shock
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock and grief over the incident. He conveyed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and assured that the government would provide ex-gratia relief and all necessary support. He directed officials to extend assistance under the RTC insurance scheme and ensure speedy help for the victims’ families.
₹5 lakh compensation for victims’ families
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also expressed anguish and said the government would provide ₹5 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased, ₹2 lakh from TGSRTC, and ₹2 lakh to the injured. He spoke with the Ranga Reddy District Collector and TGSRTC Managing Director Nagi Reddy to ensure quality treatment for the injured.
Former Home Minister Patnam Mahender Reddy visited Chevella Medical College to meet the injured and review their condition. He also discussed post-mortem arrangements for the deceased with local officials.
Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha expressed shock and reviewed medical care being provided to the injured at Chevella Government Hospital.
PM Modi, President Murmu condole loss of lives
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
President Droupadi Murmu described the accident as “deeply unfortunate” and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. She wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Political leaders express condolences
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said he was deeply saddened by the accident and extended sympathy to the families who lost loved ones.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also mourned the tragedy, saying the loss of so many lives was heart-wrenching and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The devastating crash has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, better maintenance of heavy vehicles, and improved highway safety standards.
