2 Maoists Arrested in Jharkhand’s Khunti During Police Forest Raid
In a significant breakthrough against Maoist activities in Jharkhand, security forces arrested two members of the banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) during a raid in Khunti district . Police officials said the operation was carried out in the dense Jilinga forest area following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of armed cadres.
According to the police, the arrested men were allegedly planning to strengthen the organisation’s network in the region and collect levy from local areas. Authorities also suspect that the group was preparing to execute a major disruptive incident in and around Khunti district.
The operation was launched after the Superintendent of Police received confidential information regarding the gathering of PLFI operatives inside the forest zone. A special team was immediately formed, and a search operation was conducted on Saturday. During the raid, the two suspects were successfully apprehended without any major confrontation.
Police recovered two country-made pistols and live ammunition from their possession, raising concerns over the continued presence of armed extremist elements in the forest regions of Jharkhand.
Officials described the arrests as an important step in weakening the activities of the outlawed Maoist splinter group , which has been involved in extortion, intimidation, and violent incidents in several pockets of the state over the years.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and combing operations in vulnerable areas to prevent extremist groups from regrouping. Police officials said investigations are continuing to identify possible links, local support networks, and future plans connected to the arrested operatives.
The latest crackdown reflects the ongoing efforts of Jharkhand Police to curb Maoist influence and maintain security in sensitive districts.
