182-metre NTR statue to rise in Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced that the upcoming NTR Memorial Park at Neerukonda in Amaravati would stand as a monumental tribute to Telugu identity, heritage and self-respect.

The centrepiece of the project, named NTR Smritivanam, will be a 182-metre statue of former Chief Minister and legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). Reviewing the designs at his camp office, Naidu directed officials to ensure the memorial reflects the cultural grandeur of the Telugu people by showcasing their traditions, language, literature, arts and history.

The Chief Minister said the park would not only honour NTR but also include memorials to other great figures, including freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju and linguistic martyr Potti Sriramulu. He noted that the park would be integrated with the Neerukonda reservoir to enhance its tourism potential, drawing inspiration from Gujarat’s Statue of Unity, which attracts lakhs of visitors annually.

To complement the memorial, Naidu reviewed proposals for an iconic bridge across the Krishna River, aimed at connecting Amaravati with surrounding regions. He also asked officials to prepare international-standard designs for a convention centre, positioning Amaravati as a hub of cultural, social and economic activities.

“The NTR memorial will not just be a structure, but an enduring symbol of Telugu pride and self-respect. It will inspire future generations while showcasing our rich heritage to the world,” Naidu said.

Officials have been tasked with completing detailed project reports and preparing master plans that meet global standards. The Chief Minister emphasised that the initiative is a crucial step in shaping Amaravati into a capital city that embodies both modern infrastructure and cultural heritage.

The NTR Memorial Park is expected to become a major landmark in Andhra Pradesh, combining tourism, history and identity, while celebrating the life and legacy of one of the state’s most iconic leaders.
