17,912 New Houses Approved in Andhra Pradesh Under PMAY-U 2.0

The Andhra Pradesh government has granted administrative approval for the construction of 17,912 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0.

The houses will be taken up under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) component during the 2025-26 and 2026-27 financial years. According to orders issued on Monday by Housing Department Special Secretary Hepsibah Rani Korlapati, the cost of each housing unit has been fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh.

Under the funding arrangement, the Central government will contribute Rs 1.50 lakh, or 60 per cent, per house, while the State government will provide the remaining Rs 1 lakh, or 40 per cent. The total project cost for constructing all 17,912 houses is estimated at Rs 447.8 crore, the government order stated.

The Central Sanctioning-cum-Monitoring Committee under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had earlier considered proposals for 893 houses in 2025-26, involving an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore. It subsequently considered another proposal for 4,649 houses, with a project cost of Rs 116 crore, for the same financial year.

For 2026-27, projects involving the construction of 12,370 houses, with an estimated cost of Rs 309 crore, were also taken up for consideration, according to the Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited.

The government, however, clarified that beneficiaries would have to bear any additional expenditure required to complete the construction of their houses beyond the sanctioned unit cost of Rs 2.50 lakh.
