17,000 voices, one song - India Book of Records

Over 17,000 students came together in Assam’s Nagaon district to sing Bhupen Hazarika’s iconic song ‘Manuhe Manuher Babe’ (which means “if humans do not care for other humans”) as part of the maestro’s birth centenary celebrations. The massive gathering set a new record and earned a spot in the India Book of Records.

The event, organised by the Nagaon district administration, saw students from 63 schools and colleges performing together at Nurul Amin Stadium on Wednesday evening. A team from the India Book of Records, led by Sunita Kedia, was present to verify the feat. After the performance, a certificate confirming the record was handed to Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sarma.

The celebration was graced by several dignitaries, including BJP MLAs Rupak Sarma and Sashikanta Das, Nagaon University Vice-Chancellor Hitesh Deka, senior officials, prominent artistes, and cultural figures.

Hazarika’s year-long birth centenary celebrations began on Monday, and a special tribute meeting is scheduled for September 13, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. The legendary Bharat Ratna awardee, fondly called ‘Sudhakanta’, was born on September 8, 1926, in Sadiya, Tinsukia district, leaving behind a rich legacy of music, culture, and compassion.
