17 Fishermen Rescued After Fishing Boat Develops Engine Trouble Off Kozhikode Coast

A routine fishing trip turned tense after a boat carrying 17 fishermen developed engine trouble and became stranded off the Kozhikode coast on Saturday. Thanks to a quick rescue operation by the Coastal Police and local residents, everyone on board was brought back safely.

According to officials, the fishermen had left Beypore Harbour early in the day for fishing in the Arabian Sea. While they were at sea, the boat suffered an engine failure and drifted west of Kappalangadi in Kadalundi. Unable to restart the engine or return to shore, the crew sought help.

Rescue teams, assisted by local residents familiar with the coastal waters, reached the stranded vessel and safely brought all 17 fishermen ashore. The timely response prevented the situation from turning serious.

Officials said a few fishermen suffered minor injuries during the incident. They were taken to the nearby Taluk Hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed that none of the injuries were serious, and all the fishermen are safe and in stable condition.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the name of the fishing boat or the exact reason behind the engine failure. There is also no report of major damage to the vessel, and officials are expected to examine the mechanical fault before it resumes operations.

As of Saturday evening, no further updates had been issued by the authorities. The incident once again highlights the importance of quick emergency response at sea, especially when mechanical failures leave fishing boats stranded far from the coast.
