A major leap in Andhra Pradesh’s industrial growth is on the horizon as a massive infrastructure project takes shape in Nellore district . Near Ramayapatnam , plans are underway to establish a state-of-the-art heavy cargo rail terminal , a development expected to redefine the region’s transport and trade landscape . With an estimated investment of ₹1,615 crore , the project will seamlessly connect Ramayapatnam Port to India’s extensive railway network, aligning with global logistics standards .

The terminal will be developed between the villages of Chevoor and Ravuru–Mocherla , near Tettu , covering a sprawling 429 acres . It will be constructed under the banner of Ramayapatnam Cargo Reception Terminal Private Limited , marking a significant private-sector participation in the state’s infrastructure expansion. This ambitious initiative aims to position Nellore as a key logistics hub in South India , boosting both regional and national trade efficiency.

One of the most impactful aspects of the project is its employment potential . Officials estimate that around 1,300 local youth will gain direct job opportunities . In addition, thousands more are expected to benefit indirectly through sectors such as warehousing, packaging, transportation, and logistics services , creating a ripple effect across the local economy.

Beyond freight movement, the terminal is being designed as a multi-functional logistics ecosystem . It will feature advanced bulk cargo handling systems , dedicated automobile yards , and integrated logistics parks . To support industries dealing with perishable goods , specialized cold chain infrastructure will also be developed, ensuring faster and safer movement of temperature-sensitive products.

The project will be executed in four phases , with clear timelines in place. The first phase is targeted for completion by January 2027 , enabling initial operations to begin. The remaining phases are scheduled to be completed by December 2028 , when the terminal will become fully operational.

With seamless rail and road connectivity , this cargo terminal is expected to become the backbone of Ramayapatnam Port , significantly enhancing cargo throughput. More importantly, it is poised to increase state revenue , attract further investments, and act as a catalyst for regional economic development , firmly placing Nellore on India’s logistics map.
