158 Remote AP Habitations to Get First-Time Road Connectivity

Andhra Pradesh has cleared a major rural connectivity package aimed at bringing first-time road access to 158 remote habitations, particularly settlements that have remained outside the state’s road network.

The projects, sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), involve an estimated ₹422.10 crore investment. According to the office of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the package includes 146 roads covering 347 km and 19 bridges, giving a significant push to last-mile connectivity in rural areas.

The government has also sanctioned an additional ₹24.47 crore for maintaining the newly constructed roads for five years. The works will be executed by the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department, which will oversee the implementation of the projects.

The latest package is part of the state government’s efforts to extend basic infrastructure to habitations that continue to face difficulties due to the absence of proper road links. For communities in remote areas, reliable roads can play a crucial role in improving access to schools, hospitals, markets and other essential services.

Focus on Roadless Habitations

The government has already undertaken road connectivity works for remote hilltop habitations in Alluri Sitharama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam districts through the ‘Adavithalli Bata’ initiative.

The focus has now expanded to roadless habitations in the plains, with officials identifying settlements and preparing detailed estimates for projects across several districts. These include Alluri Sitharama Raju, Parvathipuram Manyam, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kurnool, Kadapa, Tirupati, SPS Nellore, Prakasam, Palnadu, NTR, Eluru, Polavaram, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

The construction of 19 bridges is expected to further strengthen connectivity in areas where streams, waterways and other geographical barriers often disrupt transportation, particularly during the rainy season.

The Deputy Chief Minister said better connectivity would make transportation easier while creating improved opportunities for education, healthcare and marketing.

For rural residents, the projects are expected to reduce isolation, improve access to essential services and make it easier to transport agricultural produce and other goods to markets. The latest approvals mark another step towards strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s last-mile rural infrastructure.
