15 Indian Tourists Killed in Vietnam Boat Tragedy, Jaishankar Expresses Condolences

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday expressed grief over the death of 15 Indian tourists in a boat capsize near Phu Quoc, Vietnam , and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was "deeply distressed" by the tragic accident involving Indian nationals. He conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured .

The tragedy also drew condolences from Prime Minister Narendra Modi , President Droupadi Murmu , and chief ministers of several states, who expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and stood in solidarity with the affected families.

According to available information, the boat was carrying 36 people , including 32 Indian tourists and four local crew members , when it capsized near the popular Vietnamese island. Twenty-one people were rescued , while 15 Indian tourists lost their lives in the accident.

The circumstances leading to the capsize have not yet been officially disclosed. Vietnamese authorities are expected to continue their investigation into the incident.

Phu Quoc , Vietnam's largest island, is among the country's most visited tourist destinations. Renowned for its white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and island-hopping excursions , the island attracts thousands of international visitors every year, including a growing number of Indian tourists.

The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation, with the Ministry of External Affairs expected to coordinate with Vietnamese authorities to assist the victims' families and facilitate necessary support.
