14-Year-Old Suryavamshi vamshi Smashes Record Century for Bihar in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

A record-breaking innings was played by Vaibhav Suryavamshi vamshi as he became the youngest batter to score a century in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The 14-year-and-250-day-old left-handed opener achieved the milestone for Bihar against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Suryavamshi’s innings of 108 runs from 61 balls was compiled with seven fours and seven sixes, resulting in an impressive strike rate of 177.04. The century was completed in the final over of the innings with a boundary off bowler Arshin Kulkarni. This was noted as Suryavamshi’s maiden century in BCCI’s domestic T20 tournament.

In his short T20 career, Suryavamshi has now amassed 664 runs from 16 matches, including three centuries and one fifty, with an overall strike rate of 209.77. His performance followed three low scores of 14, 13, and 5 in previous SMAT matches.

Despite Suryavamshi ’s record-breaking contribution, Bihar’s total of 176/3 in 20 overs was surpassed by Maharashtra, who achieved 182/7 in 19.1 overs, winning the match by three wickets. Prithvi Shaw, the Maharashtra captain, starred in the chase with 66 runs off 30 balls, including 11 fours and one six.

Suryavamshi has also made headlines internationally. He recently scored 144 runs off 42 balls against the United Arab Emirates in the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, Qatar, representing India A. Furthermore, he has been named in India’s squad for the ICC Under-19 World Cup, scheduled in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January–February 2026. He has also been retained by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2026.

The record century at Eden Gardens has firmly established Suryavamshi as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket, with observers praising his consistency and aggressive batting style across domestic and international youth tournaments.
