14-Year-Old Girl Raped at Maharashtra's Kalyan Railway Station, Accused Arrested
In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on the premises of Kalyan railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district on Saturday evening, a place that millions trust as a gateway, not a site of danger.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) swiftly moved into action, arresting a 23-year-old man in connection with the assault within hours of the crime coming to light.
According to Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande of the Kalyan GRP, the accused brought the minor to the busy railway station at approximately 5 pm , before carrying out the assault on the premises. The brazen nature of the crime, committed in broad daylight at one of the district's busiest transit hubs, has raised urgent questions about the safety of women and children in public spaces.
The accused has been booked under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) and Section 64(1) (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act , legislation specifically designed to safeguard minors from such heinous violations.
Authorities have not disclosed details regarding the backgrounds or hometowns of either the survivor or the accused, citing the sensitivity of the matter and to protect the identity of the minor .
The case now stands as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities that persist in public spaces, even as law enforcement agencies continue to scale up surveillance and patrolling at railway stations across the country. Investigations are underway.
