14 Killed, Including Five Police Personnel, in Suicide Attack During Swat Peace Rally in Pakistan

At least 14 people, including five security personnel, were killed and more than a dozen others injured after a suicide bombing targeted a police station during a peace rally in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, officials said.

The explosion took place outside the Kabal Police Station in Swat district while the Swat Peace Rally, organised by the Swat Aman Jirga, was underway. The rally participants were demanding improved security measures and raising concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.

According to police officials, the suspected suicide bomber attempted to enter the Kabal Police Station and Police Lines compound but was stopped by security personnel at the main gate. The attacker detonated the explosives after being intercepted, damaging the entrance area.

Officials said the quick response by police prevented the bomber from entering the heavily secured compound, which houses the police station, Police Lines, a facilitation centre and other government offices. Authorities warned that casualties could have been significantly higher if the attacker had breached the security perimeter.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson confirmed that 14 people were killed in the attack. The deceased included five police personnel, including an officer, three civilians and one child, while several injured victims were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched an investigation, collecting forensic evidence to determine the nature of the attack and identify those responsible. No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

The attack has renewed concerns over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region that has witnessed a rise in militant violence in recent years. The targeting of a police facility during a public peace gathering has raised questions over security preparedness and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining stability. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi condemned the attack and directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a report on the incident. Provincial Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed grief over the deaths and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
