In a major crackdown on drug activity in the district, Guntur police arrested 14 individuals involved in the supply and consumption of marijuana, Guntur SP Vakul Jindal announced at a press briefing on Sunday.

Among those arrested, four were identified as suppliers, while the remaining ten were users. Investigations revealed that the suspects were transporting marijuana from Araku to Guntur via roadways without attempting to hide it. Police seized approximately 4.8 kilograms of marijuana during the raids. The accused have been presented in court and sent for remand.

SP Jindal also stated that in the past three months, around 40 marijuana-related cases have been registered in the district, leading to the arrest of nearly 200 individuals. Alongside enforcement operations, the police have been organizing awareness programs in schools and colleges to educate youth about the risks of drug abuse.

The SP emphasized that the raids will continue with the goal of completely curbing drug distribution, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in supply or consumption.

Meanwhile, a large drug racket was recently busted in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area last December. Police discovered marijuana being cultivated using hydroponic methods in a rented flat and seized drugs worth approximately ₹3.45 crore. Preliminary investigations suggested the involvement of an international drug trafficking network. Following the initial arrest, coordinated raids were conducted across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, and Goa.
