Thirteen students of a government school were hospitalised after they reportedly fell ill following consumption of water on the school premises in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place at the Government Senior Secondary School in Meghwalon ki Basti , Sanawada, where students had gathered for a routine school activity. During the recess, several students drank water from the school tank. Shortly after, they began experiencing symptoms including itching and red rashes , prompting concern among staff and parents.

The affected students were initially rushed to a local hospital in Sanawada. However, as their condition did not improve, they were later referred to Barmer Medical College for advanced treatment.

Additional District Collector Rajendra Singh said the children were admitted with allergy-like symptoms and are currently under close medical supervision. “A team of doctors is monitoring their condition. All the children are currently out of danger, and the exact cause of the illness is being investigated,” he said.

Preliminary suspicion points toward possible contamination in the school water tank, though authorities have not confirmed the source. Health and education department officials are expected to inspect the site and collect water samples for testing.

While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials responded quickly by shifting the students to higher medical care, where they are now stable and under observation. Further confirmation will depend on laboratory testing of water samples and inspection findings from health officials.
