₹1.27 Lakh Crore Target: AP Pushes for Revenue-Led Growth
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to significantly accelerate revenue growth and strengthen the state’s financial foundation through technology-driven governance and wide-ranging administrative reforms.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of revenue-generating departments at the Velagapudi Secretariat, the Chief Minister set an ambitious target of ₹1,27,506 crore in own revenues for 2026–27, compared to ₹1,10,643 crore in 2025–26. He noted the strong early performance, with nearly 38% growth recorded in the first 42 days of the current financial year, and urged departments to sustain this momentum throughout the year.
A major focus of the meeting was the use of Artificial Intelligence to curb tax evasion and plug revenue leakages. Naidu directed officials to deploy AI tools in GST scrutiny and commercial tax administration to improve efficiency and ensure transparency. He stressed that taxpayers should be supported through awareness and facilitation, while avoiding any form of harassment.
The Chief Minister also emphasized reforms under the “speed of doing business” framework to boost investment and strengthen indirect revenue generation. He suggested treating each district as a growth centre with clear performance targets to drive balanced development across the state.
In the mining sector, Naidu called for a shift from exporting raw materials to value addition . He directed officials to focus on enhancing revenue from rare earth minerals and developing value-added products from red sanders to tap global markets. This approach, he said, would increase state earnings and create local employment opportunities.
On land administration, the Chief Minister reviewed reforms in the stamps and registration department, stressing faster resolution of disputes, particularly related to contentious land categories. He noted that clearing such bottlenecks would improve registration activity and boost revenue collections. He also instructed that vehicle registration services be completed within 24 hours and encouraged incentives for in-state purchases, along with promotion of electric vehicles .
Naidu further highlighted the need to strengthen local governance by rationalising municipal taxes and improving property identification using drone and satellite-based surveys. He directed Panchayat Raj institutions to expand online collections and integrate rural water supply systems with urban infrastructure for better efficiency.
Reiterating that every rupee is crucial for development , the Chief Minister stressed transparency and accountability in departments such as excise, mining, and transport. He also called for studying successful revenue models from neighbouring states to identify new strategies for sustainable fiscal growth in Andhra Pradesh.
