₹1.25 Cr worth 815 Kg Poppy husk seized in Jharkhand, 2 arrested

In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, police in Jharkhand’s Palamu district have arrested two persons and seized 815 kg of poppy husk valued at approximately ₹1.25 crore , officials said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the consignment on Friday in a forested area near Jawar village under the jurisdiction of Naudiha police station . The contraband was found packed in 60 plastic sacks and being transported in a pickup van.

According to Chattarpur SDPO Awadh Kumar Yadav , the vehicle was being escorted by two individuals riding a motorcycle. “We have recovered 815 kg of poppy husk packed in 60 plastic sacks from a pickup van. The vehicle was being escorted by two persons on a motorcycle. The driver of the van managed to flee the scene, and raids are underway to apprehend him,” he said.

The police seized the motorcycle used for escorting the vehicle along with two mobile phones from the arrested individuals. Authorities have launched a search operation to track down the absconding driver.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Naudiha police station.

Officials said further investigation is underway to uncover the network involved in the transportation and distribution of the contraband.
