121 Not Out, One Year Later: Rohit Sharma’s Sydney Magic Still Makes Headlines
Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten century against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground completed one year on October 25, bringing back memories of his match-winning performance as he prepares for India’s upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand.
On October 25, 2025, Rohit scored 121 off 125 balls, including 13 fours and three sixes, while chasing Australia’s target of 237. He shared an unbeaten 168-run partnership with Virat Kohli, who contributed 74 not out off 81 deliveries. Their stand helped India reach 237/1 in 38.3 overs, securing a nine-wicket victory with 69 balls remaining.
Earlier, Australia were bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs, with Matt Renshaw scoring 56. Fast bowler Harshit Rana played a crucial role by taking four wickets for 39 runs. Rohit received the Player of the Match award, while India’s 2-1 series defeat meant the victory prevented an Australian whitewash.
The Sydney innings marked Rohit’s 33rd ODI century and 50th international century. Kohli’s contribution was equally significant, as he recovered from consecutive ducks in the first two matches and moved past Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in men’s ODI cricket at the time. The match was also considered a possible final international appearance in Australia for both veterans.
Meanwhile, Rohit has resumed training at the Mumbai Cricket Association ground in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). He was seen performing running drills and interacting with members of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad ahead of their match against Haryana. Kohli has also returned to the nets, spending nearly two hours batting at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
India’s five-match ODI series against New Zealand will run from November 4 to 15, 2026. The opening match will be played in Auckland, followed by games in Wellington and Hamilton, with the final two ODIs scheduled in Mount Maunganui. Shubman Gill will captain the first three matches, while Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in the final two.
