
₹1.13 Crore Gold Theft at Karnataka Minister’s House: Two Arrested, Relative Among Accused
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of gold ornaments worth ₹1.13 crore from the residence of Karnataka Housing Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan in Bengaluru last month, police said on Tuesday.
The incident came to light on April 15 , when the theft was reported at the minister’s Pulakeshinagar residence . A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Shivajinagar Police Station by the minister’s mother.
According to the complaint, gold jewellery received as wedding gifts and purchased through family savings was stored in a cupboard inside a room. Upon inspection, approximately 1.3 kilograms of gold ornaments were found missing. She also stated that relatives frequently visited the house to assist her and suspected involvement of one such relative in the theft.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case of house theft and launched an investigation, examining multiple possible angles. During the probe, a relative who regularly visited the house was detained near a college in Govindapura on April 16. He allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and named an accomplice.
Acting on the information, police later arrested the second accused from Mathikere in Bengaluru. Investigators said the stolen jewellery had been pledged at jewellery shops in Mathikere and Kammagondanahalli.
On April 20, police recovered 759 grams of gold jewellery from a jewellery shop in Mathikere. The total value of the recovered items has been estimated at ₹1.13 crore , police said.
Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody as further investigation continues.
