In line with the Andhra Pradesh government’s resolve to make the state drug-free, Krishna district police have intensified surveillance against the illegal transport of narcotics. As part of these efforts, police busted a major ganja smuggling attempt in the Gannavaram area and seized a large quantity of the contraband.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Krishna District Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu said that police were conducting routine vehicle checks at the BB Gudem underpass in the Gannavaram limits. During the inspection, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle and found several packets of ganja hidden inside.

Police seized a total of 112 kilograms of ganja, which is estimated to be worth around ₹10.60 lakh in the illegal market.

The accused, identified as Deepak, a resident of Pune in Maharashtra, was arrested at the spot. During questioning, he admitted to transporting the ganja. A case has been registered against him and he has been remanded to judicial custody.

The SP said that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the source of the ganja and identify those involved in its supply and distribution. He made it clear that the police would not spare anyone connected to drug trafficking and warned that strict action would be taken against those who threaten the future of youth through the sale and transport of narcotic substances.
