11 year old Atiqa Mir becomes top ranked female in FIA karting world rankings

Atiqa Mir has carved a historic milestone in international motorsport by becoming the highest ranked female driver in the latest FIA International Kart Ranking in her category.

The 11 year old Indian prodigy is currently placed seventh overall in the International OK NJ class, which features drivers in the 12 to 14 age group. The rankings, released by the sport’s governing body FIA, are led by Switzerland’s Zoltan Coigny.

This achievement marks a major breakthrough in Atiqa’s rapidly rising career. Earlier this year, she was promoted from the mini category to the junior class after being identified as a rare racing talent . Her progress was further boosted by support from the Formula 1 Academy , making her the first Indian to receive backing from the programme.

She has already begun to justify that confidence on track. In the opening round of the Champions of the Future Academy series in Valencia last month, Atiqa secured a historic podium finish , announcing her arrival on the European karting stage. She also delivered a strong performance in the WSK Super Master Series, finishing eighth out of 53 drivers in the final round at Franciacorta.

Her father, Asif Mir, a former Indian national karting champion, said the journey is still at an early stage and stressed the importance of constant improvement , noting that in racing, staying still often means falling behind.

After a short break, Atiqa has returned to testing in Lonato, Italy, as she prepares for the next round of the WSK Euro Series.

At just 11 years of age , Atiqa Mir’s rise is being seen as one of India’s most promising stories in international motorsport, with growing expectations of a long-term path toward Formula 1.
