10th edition of Visakhapatnam Navy Marathon concludes successfully

The 10th edition of the Visakhapatnam Navy Marathon–2025, organised under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command, concluded successfully on Sunday, setting a new benchmark in participation and scale. More than 17,000 runners, including athletes and fitness enthusiasts from across India and 17 foreign countries, took part in the mega event, making it one of the largest editions so far.

Held along the scenic Beach Road, the marathon infused the city’s coastline with energy and enthusiasm from early morning, as runners competed in various categories amid tight security and meticulous arrangements.

Over ₹10 Lakh Prize Money Announced

Winners in the half marathon, 10 km and 5 km race categories were awarded prize money totalling over ₹10 lakh. The substantial cash rewards announced by the Naval Command added to the competitive spirit and motivation among participants from different parts of the country and abroad.

The 10 km and 5 km races were flagged off by District Collector M.N. Harendira Prasad and City Police Commissioner Shankabrata Bagchi, in the presence of senior naval officers and representatives of various city-based organisations.

Seamless Coordination and Enhanced Facilities

The event stood out for the excellent coordination between the district administration, city police and volunteers. Organisers ensured smooth conduct by setting up drinking water points, medical teams and security personnel at intervals of every 2–3 kilometres, ensuring the safety and comfort of runners.

This year’s edition also introduced several new facilities, including improved running kits, special discounts and insurance cover for every participant. These enhancements received an overwhelming response from the running community.

Growing International Recognition

With runners from 17 foreign countries participating, the Visakhapatnam Navy Marathon is steadily gaining international recognition. Organisers noted that the event has now earned a place among India’s leading marathons, further enhancing Visakhapatnam’s profile as a major sports destination.

Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony, Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, a senior officer of the Eastern Naval Command, congratulated all participants and winners. He also expressed special appreciation to the district administration, city police and volunteers for their efforts in making the event a grand success.
