₹10 Lakh Cover, 10,000 Beds and Insurance for 1.15 Crore Families: Telangana’s Triple Healthcare Push

Telangana is witnessing a major shift in its public health strategy as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy outlined a vision aimed at achieving universal healthcare and strengthening social security for economically vulnerable families. The government is moving beyond traditional welfare measures to build a system that ensures both medical access and financial protection.

A key highlight of this initiative is the proposed Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme , which is set to benefit nearly 1.15 crore families by offering financial stability during crises. This marks a significant expansion from healthcare support alone to a broader social protection framework.

The state has also strengthened the Rajiv Aarogyasri programme by increasing coverage to ₹10 lakh , enabling access to cashless treatment for serious illnesses. The Chief Minister noted that despite inheriting pending dues of ₹627 crore under the scheme, the government cleared a major portion while expanding its scope. Since assuming office, around ₹2,046 crore has been disbursed under the CM Relief Fund and ₹2,400 crore under Aarogyasri, taking total healthcare spending to nearly ₹4,500 crore.

In parallel, Telangana is rapidly expanding its super-speciality hospitals network. The completion of major projects, including multispeciality hospitals in Warangal and Hyderabad, is expected to add nearly 10,000 beds to the public health system. With this expansion, the state’s total hospital bed capacity is projected to rise from around 55,000–60,000 to nearly 70,000 beds , significantly strengthening the public health system . The government is also constructing a new Osmania Hospital in Goshamahal with an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore, while accelerating work on TIMS hospitals across key locations.

Administrative reforms have also been prioritised. The government is introducing digital governance measures, including a new platform that allows NRI doctors to register and offer voluntary services during visits to the state. At the same time, irregularities in earlier relief fund cheque distribution have been addressed, with legal action initiated against those involved.

By integrating infrastructure expansion, insurance coverage, and transparency-driven reforms, Telangana is building a comprehensive safety net that addresses both healthcare access and financial vulnerabilities, positioning itself as a model for inclusive and sustainable development.
