1 crore signatures collection drive against AP Medical college privatization

A statewide public movement opposing the privatization of government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh was officially launched today. The campaign, which is set to run for 45 days, will cover the state from district headquarters down to village-level communities.

Organizers have called upon scholars, public organizations, and representatives from various political parties to actively participate in the signature collection drive. The initiative aims to consolidate public opinion and demonstrate widespread opposition to the proposed privatization.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the campaign plans to collect one crore signatures from citizens across the state. The collected signatures are scheduled to be formally submitted to the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on November 25, 2025, signaling the collective stance of the people against privatization.

Speaking on the occasion, party officials emphasized that the campaign is intended to safeguard access to affordable medical education for all students and ensure that public institutions remain under government administration. They also highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, urging citizens from all walks of life to contribute their signatures to the cause.

The 45-day signature drive represents one of the largest organized citizen-led petitions in the state in recent years. Similar campaigns in Andhra Pradesh have historically focused on issues ranging from education policies to farmers’ rights, and the scale of participation in this movement is expected to reflect the strong public sentiment against privatization of medical education.
