
Aligarh farmer dies in bee attack, 4th death in 2 months in UP
A 55-year-old farmer, Manohar Lal , died after a swarm of bees attacked him while he was working in his field in Kamawali village of the Iglas area in Aligarh district , police said on Thursday. The incident is the fourth fatal bee attack reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past two months , highlighting a worrying pattern of such incidents across the state.
According to officials, Lal was working in the field with family members when bees suddenly emerged from a tree and attacked him . Hearing his cries for help, nearby farmers rushed to the spot and managed to disperse the swarm. However, the victim had already lost consciousness after multiple bee stings by the time help arrived.
He was initially taken home and later shifted to the district hospital in Hathras , which is closer to Iglas than the hospital in Aligarh district. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival , police said. Authorities have sent the body for a postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The latest death comes amid a series of similar incidents reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh in recent weeks.
On March 23, 60-year-old farmer Saheb Singh died in Mainpuri after a swarm of bees attacked him while he was working in a chilli field, and several villagers were also injured in the incident.
Earlier, on March 10, a devotee named Sant Ram was killed and two others injured when bees attacked people gathered at a temple complex during a fair in Ambedkar Nagar district.
In another dramatic incident on February 19, 65-year-old cricket umpire Manik Gupta died in Unnao after a bee swarm attacked players and officials during a cricket match at Sapru ground in the Shuklaganj area, triggering panic on the field.
Officials say the recent incidents underline the growing risk of sudden bee swarm attacks in rural and public spaces .
